Note: Band switched songs after 2 reviews, so first two (bottom two) on list were for another track. Title: smoooooooth operata!!!! What I Think: a very cool tune. catchy, cool lyrics, good singing voices,...this is a band i'm going to watch out for. i checked out their site,...it's nice to see they're starting to invade the USA!!! go CANADA!!! Reviewer's Band's Site: Title: Punk still rules! What I Think: I like high-energy rock like this, so I'm a little biased. This style of music doesn't require a lot of playing precision, but they seem fairly tight together. It's a catchy tune and I find myself still humming it after the song's finished playing. I believe that's called a hook. This is the only piece I've heard from them, so I probably am not being objective enough. The songwriting on this pieceis a little monodimensional, but sometimes you can get away with it. What I mean by that is the musical statement repeats itself without anything to break up the cycle. However, this approach works with a high-energy song like this. If I heard more of their music, I could tell you whether there's a need for improvement there. Even so, the Ramones made a career out of taking one song and making an album out of it! The production is first-rate. They put a lot of effort into recording it and it shows. This is a first-rate band and from the looks of things, they're definately going places. Extra Credit Items: The lead vocalist reminds me of Paul Weller from the Jam. Nothing particularly original, but it was a good listen and works for me. Sounds like an early years, amped version of bad religion. For improvements I would suggest cutting down the intro a little, and working on the vocal interplay between the singers. Extra Credit Items: I liked the guitar and bass tone, and the overall melodic interplay. The guitar work reminded me of an old band called the Rhythm Pigs. What I Think: a much better song... good misfits sounding riff.. cool twangy surf punk sounding guitars.. still no hook to the song, but this song has a better structure, and will most likely fly with the college crowd... this sound would do pretty well in ohio... Kind of reminded me of a weezer guitar progression and tone but a ska punk vocals. I did not really dig the singing but it fits well with the music background. Even if you don't want to give your e-mail address, at least put in a helpful review. Title: a tough genre.. What I Think: this is probably the toughest genre (pop-punk) to play. there are a ton of bands writing this genre, and now the pros have been enlisted to write.. this makes some pretty stiff competition... this song falls right about in the middle of the genre.. there is a whole lot of better stuff out there, but also a whole lot worse stuff.. the song is kind of repetitive.. and no new ground is covered. conspicously missing, and a defninte requirement for any pop punk song is a hook. maybe this wasn't their best song to use for a demo, but in the pop punk genre.. .every song has to be your best song...
