Song - "Alienne" from their upcoming release Can be heard at the band's site if they had one (get with it guys). As their Bio reads: "Once upon a time, three young men living in the isolated northern expanse of their homeland chanced upon some shortwave radio broadcasts of what they thought to be western "popular" music. Captivated and inspired, or at least with nothing better to do, they initiated their own series of transmissions which have been collected here for the first time for your listening enjoyment." How I Might Describe: A minimalist three piece, their live show features tales of standing in line for boots "New Bootskies", conversations about vodka in the old country (pronounced "wood-ka") and sometimes a cover of the Mary Tyler Moore Show them song. Their fun attitude and minimal instrumentation remind me at Presidents Of The United States, but with a laid back brilliance running through each song. This track is probably the most ethereal as most of their songs roll along at a bouncy pace. I can't wait for the rest of their songs to be finished. |

Title: What I Think: Extra Credit Items: Reviewer's email: Reviewer's Band's Site: Title: Emo needs to go away What I Think: This style of music doesn't make sense. I don't see how it could stay around this long Extra Credit Items: Nothing Reviewer's email: Cradle16F@hotmail.com Reviewer's Band's Site: Title: Nice west coast strum (from the Mid-West) What I Think: Fans of Elliot Smith would be well advised to check out 'Sputnik'. Reminds me also of Beachwood Sparks, and classic Northwest-Portland indie folk rock(although these guys are from Ohio, apparently). As such, the melody and atmosphere are what counts in those recordings, and Sputnik has a nice 'warm' field - plus the tune hangs with ya for awhile. Extra Credit Items: Production wise, I loved the slow fade in - really set a nice mood. Guitar sounded full and augmented the tune nicely thusly. I keep being especially reminded of what made XO so good by Elliot; great melodies that sounded like they were being sung/performed late at night, with a nice intimacy. "Keep it down - the neighbors are sleeping..." Good stuff! Reviewer's email: chadstanley53@hotmail.com Reviewer's Band's Site: Title: cool tune! What I Think: Must be the result of Al having awesome neighbors as an influence.... Fred D. Extra Credit Items: Good harmony, nice tune, has great potential Reviewer's email: (Private Review) Reviewer's Band's Site: Title: Where's the "Spunk-nik"?? What I Think: It was an alright song but had no drive. Could put an audience to sleep by the second verse. Sorry, just didn't do anything for me. Extra Credit Items: They seemed to have song writing skills, I would be interested to hear the rest of the album - see if there was anything more interesting, which I imagine there might be. Extra Credit Items: nice vocal harmonies. clean instrument mix. Title: Ready for Radio What I Think: Very listenable; nice mood. I could see it going somewhere; radio ready; good movie soundtrack song. Extra Credit Items: Very much liked the recording quality; very clear, very professional. The singer's voice is soothing, and I like the use of brushes. Reviewer's email: blackturtleneck2002@yahoo.com Reviewer's Band's Site: Title: Beatles-like Tune What I Think: Nice little tune, good to the ears. It seemed very flat throughout the song, niether the chorus nor the verses really suck out from one another. Good for backround music. Extra Credit Items: The backing vocals were cool and the lead was solid. The production was pretty great. I like that they keep it simple. Reviewer's email: jeff@downtownpopular.net Reviewer's Band's Site: www.downtownpopular.net Title: sensible indie sound.. What I Think: very good song, along the lines of belle and sebastian et al.. i really dug it, and ended up listening to the songs twice, just because i thought it was good. i would probably have this record in my personal collection.. but.. even if you are not into the luna/belle vibe, this might be a good introduction.. Extra Credit Items: i liked the idea that this sound is still alive. that's what i liked. Reviewer's email: sergio@village-buzz.com Reviewer's Band's Site: http://www.village-buzz.com Title: Simple and Sweet What I Think: I like this song because of it's basic simplisty. Extra Credit Items: Reviewer's email: soleyduncan@hotmail.com Reviewer's Band's Site: http://www.soleyduncan.com Title: Alienne What I Think: Nice poppie radio friendly tune. Extra Credit Items: The crispness of the vocals and guitars are great, doesn't sound like a basement recording and if it was hat's off! Reviewer's email: cincy1@aol.com Reviewer's Band's Site: www.bluekarma.com Title: 80's Return What I Think: Reminds me of all the late 80's bands that were trying to fight there way throught the hair bands wall of rock. Great sounding track. Mix and production are excellent. Track has a nice laidback groovy atmosphere. The vocals are strong, but the hook could use some work. Kinda bland. The song is not breaking any ground sonically or composition wise, but it sounds good and sometimes that is enough. Extra Credit Items: The production. Warm. All the instrumentation is clear. Good singing vocies. Reviewer's email: buckra@mpowerent.com Reviewer's Band's Site: http://www.buckra.com Title: poor poor poor What I Think: im sorry guys, but this is about as good as pre used toilet paper. if this was an animal i would have shot if as it being alive would be more cruel, i hope for the sake of your futures that this is a practice and not a serious attempt to get in the charts Extra Credit Items: erm i didnt really poor vocals poor instuments poor sound quality Reviewer's email: flintstones84@hotmail.com Reviewer's Band's Site: |
