It's a catchy tune. The build to the chorus made me feel like it would be a little more heavy than it actually was, but was still good. Extra Credit Items: The use of the slide guitar, it had a very etheral quality to it that sounded really awesome. Great guitar! The singer has a nice voice, too. If I would change anything at all, it would be to emphasize the changes in dynamics a bit more and delete a little bit of the ending flourishes. Extra Credit Items: Overall, I love their British-influenced (?) sound. Just a little less reverb might have put me more in the middle of the action, but I realize this is a preference issue. Extra Credit Items: Surprise timing of the escalation of intensity. Harmonies. His poignant wording and otherworldly musical effects work to create a mystical sound, respendent with feeling. Extra Credit Items: his excellent musical timing and pauses, special sound effects all work to create the special feel. Also love the Brit flavor in his word pronunciation. Extra Credit Items: i can't tell if the warble is intentional, or an artifact of the mp3 encoding, but whatever it is, it works.. What I Think: these americans sure can rock! they may not have crooked teeth like my true british mates, but they can play their instruments impressively well. Extra Credit Items: matt. he's cute. *blush* Reviewer's email: dorqus@po.cwru.edu Reviewer's Band's Site: Title: Finally, real talent! What I Think: For the first time in a long time, I'm hearing a new band that is full of talented musicians, great songwriting abilities, excellent vocals, and an interesting style. It seems so often that one or more of these things is missing in bands, but here we have it all. The musical combination of kind of UK poppy feel mixed with American alt undertones creates a uniquely Viola sound that demonstrates that here IS a band with it all, just waiting for their big break! It's also exciting to hear truly intelligent lyrics set amid a UK pop kind of feel. so many bands are about the sound but with vacant lyrics. The Viola Contingent shows that they are intellectual human beings exploring a wide range of feelings and thoughts. That's so refreshing! Extra Credit Items: Vocals, lyrics, style, mix! Had a 'swirley' feel in the verses that I liked, sort of ethereal. Then the chorus kicks in, and it's straight-out catchy. Especially the "hey Hey" parts. I would buy this.
