Why You Should Listen To Miles:

I started playing drums in the 7th grade. Grew up listening to all kinds of heavy metal….no, I am not ashamed of it. I was in a band in high school, we weren’t very good. My first real band experience came in college playing in Two Doors Down. Our first album was engineered by John Curley of the Afghan Whigs. We did our second album at SUMA in Painesville, Ohio with Paul Hamman. My first real hand in production came on the first Rosavelt record, Carp and Bones, and even more production credit on the second album, Transistor Blues. Our third album due out soon was a total collaborative effort between Mark Erickson, our producer, Mike McDonald, the engineer, and all members of Rosavelt, in terms of production. The album has not been named and was recorded entirely at the home of our guitarist, Chris Allen. In addition to my drumming skills, I also play some guitar, mandolin and sing quite a bit.

Why is production so important? I always wondered that question and its hard to answer, but really easy to hear. Nothing stands out faster than bad songs, bad arrangements, bad sounds and bad mixes. In turn, nothing stands out more than great songs, great arrangements, great sounds and great mixes. My goal is to take the music coming out of this city and try and make it better. There is no band that can do it alone unless you are a total genius and have done engineering, producing, mixing and mastering long before you became a musician. This is usually not the case, so don’t try and be a hero…..let someone step in and assist the process. Ask anyone I have been involved with and they will tell you right away that I have an excellent sense of the concept of a song, no matter how odd it may be and a really good ear for error. I have a massive CD collection with all types of music in it, from Rap to Folk to Metal to Classical. It can never be said that I don’t know the genre. That’s enough about me…..I hope these reviews and suggestions are helpful.
